It definitely was a good day for the Norwegians. Despite yesterday's incident with a disqualification of Anders Fannemel, today the team did a pretty good job in the individual competition. Let us remind, that with a wonderful jump of 141 meters the qualification round won 20-year-old Norwegian Johann Andre Forfang. But in the final competition his one year older teammate had no equal.
Quite surprisingly already in the first round Daniel-Andre Tande showed everyone how strong he is. With a jump on a distance of 142 meters he gave the longest jump of the round, but eventually he placed 4.1 points behind Peter Prevc, who with a jump of 139 meters was the leader of the competition. In the first round from very good side showed themselves also Severin Freund (134 meters), Noriaki Kasai (136,5 meters) and Kamil Stoch (137 meters), so the battle for the final victory seemed very interesting. And indeed it was.
In the final round everyone were impressed by jump of Johann Andre Forfang, who with a distance of 143 meters gave the longest jump of the day and improved his result from 16th to 9th position. Also Austria's Stefan Kraft, who was 14th after the first round, made a huge progress between the rounds. With a jump of 142,5 meters he was even the current leader before the jumps of the Top 10 of the competition and eventually finished 6th ex aequo with Andreas Wellinger (133 and 135,5m).
But the most interesting part of the competition has been yet to come. Richard Freitag in a great style flew on 141 meter and lost to his teammate Severin Freund, who jumped 132 meters, only 0.1 points. Daniel-Andre Tande once again gave an awesome jump, by landing on 140,5 meter, but everyone had to wait for the reaction of the 2nd ski jumper of the previous season - Peter Prevc. Slovene once again jumped great in very good style on 138 meter, but it wasn't enough to beat the Norwegian. Prevc eventually lost to the winner 3.1 points.
But two Prevc brothers have today a reason to smile. 2nd place in the season opener is a good thing, isn't it? And what's more, younger of the brothers, 16-year-old Domen, was ranked on the 8th position in his World Cup debut, with jumps of 127 and 139,5 meters.
In the overall World Cup standings the leader is Daniel-Andre Tande with 100 points, second is Peter Prevc with 80 points, third is Severin Freund (60 points), 4th Richard Freitag (50 points) and 5th Noriaki Kasai (45 points).

Today's competition was full of unexpected plot twists, in the first round mostly because of the wind conditions. But eventually the ski jumping fans in Klingenthal and those in front of the TV could enjoy a fantastic competition! We couldn't dream of a better season opener!
