The ski jumping summer Grand Prix continues, as well as the Continental Cup. The SGP took place in Hinterzarten, Germany this week and the CoC competition could have be seen in Wisła, Poland. The most famous summer competition has two heroes – Andreas Wank and Dawid Kubacki.

The team competition was a huge success for the German mannschaft – they celebrated the first victory at home in Hinterzarten in unbelievable ten years! The biggest credit has Andreas Wank, who dominated both training rounds and the competition; and Andreas Wellinger, who scored the most points in the race itself. Both Andreases, as well as Severin Freund and Stephan Leyhe, pleased all the German fans at the bottom of the hill. The battle for the second place occurred between the Polish and Norwegian teams. A savior for the Lukasz Kruczek’s team was Dawid Kubacki – the leader of the SGP – so him and Maciej Kot, Piotr Żyła and Kamil Stoch scored almost 7 points more than Rune Velta, Phillip Sjøen, Kenneth Gangnes and Anders Fannemel.

Saturday’s individual competition wasn’t such an easy job for Dawid Kubacki, but the leader from Wisła stays at the throne – he scored 2.4 points more than Severin Freund. Freund’s second place must have been another big satisfaction for the German fans in Hinterzarten. A clear surprise for ski jumping fans all over the world was the great third place for Kento Sakuyama – this Japanese ski jumper’s shape rises, so on winter he could be the most valuable team member for Japan. The next two places were occupied by Germans Stephan Leyhe and Andreas Wellinger.

The men’s Continental Cup took place in Wisła on Saturday and Sunday. The winner of the Saturday’s competition is quite unknown – the young Norwegian Joacim Ødegård Bjøreng surprised literally every ski jumping fan when he scored 0.1 point more than 366 days younger Pole Przemysław Kantyka. The third place belonged to Philipp Aschenwald (AUT), the fourth one was experienced Polish ski jumper Stefan Hula and Sebastian Colloredo, who is experienced as well, occupied the fifth place. One might say that the youth beat the skilled.

More satisfied could have been the Polish fans under the hill the next day. On Sunday, the winner, who represents the white-red flag, is called Klemens Murańka. He was nominated for the World Cup many times and he won CoC races as well, so he knows how to behave at the podium. Slovenian Rok Justin’s Saturday result was place 18, so the hypothetical Sunday’s silver medal should really mean much to him. Another well-known guys, Stefan Hula and Philipp Aschenwald, shared the third place, and the last one from TOP 5 was Przemysłav Kantyka.

Which competitions are ahead of us? On Thursday, the men’s and women’s SGP takes place in Courchevel, France (HS 132) and the next day only men will compete in Einsiedeln, Switzerland (HS 117) – so stay tuned!
