Anders Bardal retires – a great man says good-bye!

As the Norwegian world champion of 2013 and World-Cup overall winner of 2011/12 revealed this morning on his website: this has been his last season!

Anders Bardal performed his last jump last weekend in Oslo.

A fantastic career in one of the best and consistent teams of the world ends. We are looking back with a sad eye and and an admiring eye to the great jumps and the marvelous performances that the 32-year old from Steinkjer has given us throughout the years.

Owning 2 Olympic medals (bronze with the team in 2010 and bronze individually in 2014), 2 gold medals and 5 silver medals from Nordic Ski World-Championships, one bronze medal and 2 silver medals in Ski-Flying World-Championships as well as 6 national titles with a total of 17 medals make him one of the high class athletes in ski jumping.

Anders Bardal won 7 individual World-Cup competitions, has 10 victories with the team and also 2 Summer-Grand-Prix victories on his account.

If you want to read more about his career, have a look at his portrait in At The Hills!

The reasons for his retirement are intelligible wishes that every athlete in this sport sooner or later has: He is looking forward to be with his wife and kids, to build his own house and to start a regulated life (working at Sparebank 1 SMN).

Anders is sure that another jumper will inherit his place in the team and in the World-Cup. Although we know that he isn't replaceable, we also know the position of the chef pilot in the Norwegian team won't be vacant for long. Anders is proud that he could be a representative of his favorite sport and his country for so many years.

What his life without ski jumping will be like, that is a point Anders doesn't know yet. But he thinks going, when it's best is the right choice for him. That he'll return to the hills in a new function is not excluded – we'll looking forward to this and wish him all the best for his future and his plans!

Thank you for everything, Anders, it was a pleasure to see you jump!
