World Juniors: Norwegian double, Johann Andre Forfang wins the GOLD, Philip Sjoen is Bronze in Almaty Consuelo Conte [KokkaMufc] February 2015

The new world junior champion Johann Andre Forfang, source: The juniors world championships has finally arrived in Kazakhstan (Almaty) On the International Jump Complex HS 106, today we have saw Joahnn Andre Forfang becoming the new junior world champion on the NH, ahead of German’s Andreas Wellinger which came second winning the silver, while instead Philip Sjoen has taken the bronze medal. This was the first medal at the Juniors for Norway in almost 20 years, the last was won back in 1997.

Johann Andre Forfang get a joyful hug by teammate and bronze medal P.Sjoen After the first round we’ve had two norwegians in the top 4 with Daniel Forfang, younger brother Johann Andre, finished in the first position, with the longest jump of the first round 101.5m, to repeat himself again in the final round,by getting a 103 meters jump for a final score of 269.9 pts, which secured him the gold medal. Right behind the norwegian, after the first round we’ve had Austria, Simon Greiderer, which then lost 3 places after the final round and finished 5th with 262.6 pts. As for Germany Andreas Wellinger - third ranked after the first round - today was for sure a day to remember,he has managed to win the silver medal,in today’s men competition. A great result for him especially because, the ski jumper from Ruhpolding, was coming back at the races after the injury at his shoulder, that he suffered at the start of the season. Same can be said for Norway’s Philip Sjoen - 4th after the first round -,which throughout the summer and the start of the new season was one of the newest faces ready to shine in the ski jumping world cup scenario, but then he has also suffered a fall and had to be out for a while, before making his comeback to the competitions only recently. He gained a place in the final jump finishing 3rd and giving in this way to Norway a double joy by winning the bronze medal. Earlier in the day, Russia Sofia Tikhonova became women junior world champion, beating Austria Elisabeth Raudaschl (Silver), and Chiara Hoelzl (Bronze).
