Willingen day three: Zyla wins qualification: Freund winner of today competition. Consuelo Conte [KokkaMufc] February 2015

Today's winner Severin Freund
Willingen day three: last day of competition in Willingen has first see Piotr Zyla winning the qualification round ahead of Manuel Poppinger and Taku Takeuchi, with a measure of 145.5 meters, and a score of 126.5 pts. Solid performances in the qualification round also for Italy’s Davide Bresadola (8th with 139m/106.4 pts), and Tom Hilde which shared the 8th place with Bresadola. The question for today is: Will we get a new hill record? On yesterday competition, Anders Fannemel has managed to jump 150 meters, only 2 meters behind the current hill record set by Janne Ahonen in 2005. The day has continued with the men competition which has saw Severin Freund winning the last race of the weekend on the Mühlenkopfschanze, which have taken part in Willingen, for everyone pleasure. The German closed the table today, at the first place in both rounds. He won ahead of Norway’s Rune Velta by 1 point difference! It was a very exciting competition, as only the german village (as few others venues) is able to offer for all the ski jumping fans. Rune Velta, -which shared the third place with Anders Fannemel after the first round- ,was the only one in the final jump -before Freund’s turn of course- to get a distance over the 140’s. Roman Koudelka, who was 7th, has gained 4 places and jumped on the podium at the 3rd place. A real pity for A.Fannemel which on his last jump couldn’t get over the 134.5 meters, losing in this way, two places and finishing 5th, but still a good results for the norwegian ski jumper. The day has started pretty good, we’ve had some very good jumps, from the beginning, from today’s winner S.Freund (149.5m /138 pts), passing by a solid Stefan Kraft which has seen himself to reduce his advantage on Peter Prevc, on the overall world cup table today, after the 6th place in today competition. In the first round, the Four Hills champion, had a good performance jumping 149m, but after his final jump (134.5m) the chances to win today’s race were very little. A good performance came also from the American Nick Alexander in the first round he had a good jump of 138 meters, finishing in the 23rd position, but then he lost 4 places in the final round and ended the day at the 27th spot, with a final score of 198.8 pts. As for Italy Davide Bresadola which has two good jumps in the quali and first round (139 m and 137m respectively), had some difficulties, mostly due to the not ideal weather conditions, he lost 8 places ending up at the 24th place of the table. He was 16th after the first round. Kamil Stoch winner of the Friday competition, has finished in the 7th today with distances of (143.5m /136.5 /249.9 pts). This weekend we have also witnessed at the comeback at the races of Janne Ahonen, 30th place today, and Tom Hilde has also shown signs of improvements, and has finished 10 today. The only pity was that in the final round there have been some changes in the weather conditions, which didn’t helped some of the ski jumpers to get their best distance. Personally I was hoping for a new hill record today, which judging by the jumps made in the first round was manageable to get, but it didn’t worked out. Still today has been one of the most enjoyable races of the season. The road to Planica is still long, before we will find out if Kraft will make it to win the overall world cup title, or not. But before that, it will be interesting to see who’s is going to shine the most in Falun, at the World Championships, which are not too far away now.
