Anders Jacobsen jumps phenomal qualification in Garmisch-Partenkirchen

After an outstanding training jump of 145m, Norwegian Anders Jacobsen repeated being the farthest with a qualification jump of 139.5m (135pts) and wins the qualification and also the prize money of 2000€ ahead of Noriaki Kasai (135m/130.8points) and Peter Prevc (133.5m/126.9pts). That gives the Norwegian a good chance for the podium in the prestigious New Year's jumping tomorrow. But also Peter Prevc as one of the remaining favorites will surely be fighting to get a better position in the Four-Hills-overall.
The top three is followed by Oberstdorf's winner Stefan Kraft, who made it to 134.5m.
The German eagles Richard Freitag (5th; 129.5m/125.4pts) and Severin Freund (6th; 134m/124.1pts) put their disappointing performance of Oberstdorf right and give some hopes for a German on the podium tomorrow. The biggest surprise of the day was Dimitry Vassiliev, who finished as seventh with a jump of 135.5m (120.9pts), which is actually the second farthest jump. Still he has problems with a proper telemark. Otherwise we've would have seen in top three even. Michael Hayböck, the other Austrian favorite for the overall, shared rank eight with Rune Velta (120.3pts).
Daiki Ito completed the top ten with 132m (119.9pts).
Piotr Zyla seems to jump with less pressure now as Kamil Stoch returned to the team. Today he came in on rank eleven, while Stoch became 13th. Jernej Damjan, as prequalified, was 12th.
A drop of bitterness for the German team was the out of Markus Eisenbichler, who only jumped to 113m and lacked three places. Also the US team couldn't place their athletes in the competition, Nicholas Alexander missed the qualification by one place. While also the Italian youngsters fell out of the list, their strongest man Davide Bresadola, who already had good training jumps today, didn't have a problem to qualify. Thomas Diethart seems to find his form slowly, he finished as 19th, while Marinus Kraus won't be satisfied with his 26th rank. Stephan Leyhe on the other hand showed a stable performance in the last competitions and was 36th today.
Anders Fannemel fell back to rank 21. It will be interesting to see his performance tomorrow- does he lack confidence or power right now or did he just experiment with his equipment for the training and qualification again?
Gregor Schlierenzauer and Simon Ammann declined to jump, which means that they'll get a strong rival in the K.O.duels.
But as Roman Koudelka was disqualified because of his suit – but cannot be thrown out because he is prequalified – the duels will be a little different than expected.
