Harrachov Day 1 : Severin Freund takes victory
14/03/2014 20:18
Harrachov (CZE) usually is the place where the competitions never see the end, due to the wind problems, but it doesn’t seemed to be like that today.
Weather and wind conditions, were beyond perfect, until the final round when the wind conditions all of the sudden have changed.
During the first round only few ski jumper have managed to go over the 200’s meters. Anders Bardal maintained the leadership for the first ¾ of the race, until Severin Freund’s jump and slovenian starlet Peter Prevc.
The first round finished with these three ski jumpers making the provisional podium, while veteran Noriaki Kasai was 4th.
The final round instead began with the jury changing the starting gate from the 8th to the 11th, and also with a bad fall from Czech Republic, Antonin Hajek, which have to be carried away, hopefully is nothing serious and as soon as we get some news we will let you all know.
Latest about Hajek suggest that the ski jumper has go back to the hotel and didn’t have to be taken to the hospital, in fact the there is a chance he will compete tomorrow. Toward the end the wind hasn’t been so good, but truth to be told wasn’t that bad either as in the past when some ski jumping races had to be cancelled due to the bad wind, but as been mentioned today during the commentary on Eurosport Italy by Massimiliano Ambesi, it is expected a windstorm for tomorrow, if this is true the podium should be remain unchanged.
Freund Bardal Prevc
If in the first round Prevc was the favorite to win the gold medal, after his second jump in the final round, he missed out a big chance jumping only 183 meters, with 15.4 points behind Severin Freund, which is now looks like the favorite for the ski flying world championship title.
Tomorrow if everything goes as it should it will be a very interesting battle. Consuelo Conte [@KokkaMufc]
