With jumps on 103m and 97.5 the young German Carina Vogt won the gold medal in the first women olympic ski jumping competition ever.

She could outpace the Austrian Daniel Iraschko - Stolz who was 5th after the first round but with a jump on 104.5m in the second round she could pass Sara Takanashi and Coline Mattel.

On the third and bronze rank jumped Coline Mattel from France who was second after the frist round but was really happy to win the bronze medal.

Absoulte favourite Sara Takanshi from Japan jumped 98.5m in the second round but could not set a Telemark and because of this she missed a medal with 2.2 points and finisehd fourth.

The 5th place surprisingly went to Evelyn Insam from Italy followed by strong Slovenian Maja Vtic who showed 100.5m in the second round. Other Slovenian girls could not reach the top 10 but Katja Pozun on the 11th place also did a strong competition.

Team Norway could place two athletes in the top 10. Maren Lundby on 8 and Line Jahr on 9 both showed a really good competition.

The Top 10 was completet by the best US-girl Jessica Jerome who showed jumps on 97m and 99m.

Atsuko Tanaka and Taylor Henrich from Canada who were in the Top 10 after the frist round both showed a weaker second jump and could not hold their positions.

World Champion Sarah Hendrickson from the USA who sufferd a rupture of cruciate ligament just five month ago made a good 21st place at her comeback.

The Russian hope for medal Irina Avvakumova missed this goal clearly, on the 16th place.

It was a really thrilling and close competition with the best thirty ladies in the world and a real advertisment for women ski jumping.
