At his Olympic debut the young Austrian made a jump on 101m and could win the Qualification Round 0.7 points ahead of Andreas Wank from Germany, who made the longest jump with 102.5m, and Japanese Reruhi Shimizu.
Anders Fannemel on the 4th place was the best Norwegian of the day and one of the four jumpers who jumped 100m or more.
With Roman Koudelka und Jan Matura there are two jumpers from the Czech Republic in the Top 10. Koudelka with the early number 7 jumped 99.5m which was the 6th Rank. Matura grabbed the 8th Rank with 97m.
Comebacker Thomas Morgenstern could reach the 9th Qualification Rank in the first competition after his heavy injury in January.
Surprisingly three Koreans made it to the competition with Hyun-ki Kim on a shared 16th place.
Also with Mackenzie Boyd-Clowes and Dusty Korek Canada can chear for two of their Athletes in the competition. Anders Johnson, Peter Frenette and Nick Alexander will represent the United State s of America.
Team Italy has with Sebastian Colloredo, who shows that he is getting in better shape, and Davide Bresadola two out of three starters in the first Olympic competition.
From the pre-qualified jumpers Severin Freund and Gregor Schlierenzauer both showed jumps on 104m but also Olympic Champion from Vancouver Simon Ammann, Kamil Stoch and Peter Prevc showed their great shape.
I guess we will see a very close and exciting competiton from the Normal Hill tomorrow.
Severin Freund, Gregor Schlierenzauer, Michael Hayboeck, Simona Ammann and Kamil Stoch are the Athletes who will have the best chance to grab one of the medals in my opinion.
