The German fifth man for the Olympic Games in Sochi secured himself the victory of yesterday’s qualification and the 1000€ prize money with a jump of 136m (124.5points).

Close behind Wank landed Reruhi Shimizu, who couldn’t believe his performance of 142m (124.1points). His colleague Daiki Ito even set 145m, which was the farthest jump of the day but he couldn’t set a telemark, which threw him back on the fourth rank. Third became Jurij Tepeš with a solid performance of 138.5m (123.6points).

Also Piotr Zyla should be proud of yesterday’s results. He managed 144.5m but presented a shaking landing that cost him points.

Best Austrians have been Stefan Kraft (135.5m) and Michael Hayböck (7th, 133m). Dawid Kubacki landed on the eighth place with 135.5m, while Ole Marius Ingvaldsen could gain confidence for today’s race with a jump of 138.5m. Yuta Watase (138.5m) completed the top ten.

Jernej Damjan, who had an amazing weekend in Sapporo, came in on the eleventh rank. Markus Eisenbichler, who has been best in training yesterday, couldn’t repeat his performance and was only 18th. On the other hand, it seems like Roman Koudelka is getting more security with the jumps he makes: Rank 16 went to him. That is right behind Jan Matura.

The Norwegian Olympic team is not competing in Willingen but the B-team presents itself quite good. We’ll see Andreas Stjernen, Atle Perdersen Rønsen, Ole Marius Ingvaldsen, Robert Johanssen and Joachim Hauer in today’s competition.

Also Martin Cikl, Sebastian Colloredo and Sami Heiskanen could get qualified. Cestmir Kozisek, Vegard Swensen and Dimitry Vassiliev on the other hand didn’t make it.

Out of the line of prequalified the best jump came from Severin Freund, who was followed by Andreas Wellinger and Robert Kranjec.

This makes excited for today’s competition, which starts at 16:00!
Stay tuned!
