Slovenia occupies Japan!
28/01/2014 12:00
Europeans who wanted to watch the Sunday’s competition in Sapporo had two options: not to go to sleep, or go sleep early and get up at 1am CET. For the citizens of the Slovenia, it was totally worth it, because the way how their jumpers took care of this competition was unbelievable. The results are clear – the podium belongs to Jernej Damjan, Peter Prevc and Robert Kranjec, the “Janus-boys.”
If Goran Janus celebrated last night, this night’s party must be the party of his life, because all three places on podium belong to his boys. Jernej Damjan got in shape and his triumph is justified - he jumped 138 and 134 meters. The World cup leader Peter Prevc was ninth after the first round (he jumped “only” 124m), but the jump 137,5 meters long was the longest jump of the round and the second place was secured. Robert Kranjec was third one for his jumps 126 and 137 meters long.
Michael Neumayer reached the fourth place, because of his stable performance (133,5m and 134m). The record holder of the Okurayama hill was only Roar Ljoekelsoey until now, because Andreas Kofler jumped 140 meter in the first round and settled his record. He finished fifth after 130m in the second round. The sixth place belongs to Japanese ninja Noriaki Kasai (123,5m and 133m). King of Sapporo from the last season, Czech jumper Jan Matura, could finish first, too, because he was first after the first round (131,5m), but he jumped only 127 meters and finished seventh.
So what can we think about the situation in ski jumping after the Sapporo weekend? Well, Slovenian’s self-confidence raise as hell, Peter Prevc is current World cup leader and Goran Janus can expect success at the Olympics!
