When it comes to the 4 Hills - Tournament, there are always high expectations from everybody, especially for the big names. The "old" faces combined to the new ones, giving battle to each other’s trying to reach the highest place on the podium, and maybe being able to take away from Sven Hannavald wall the record of four wins in a row at the tournée. Today was maybe a magical day for one of the most adored, and loved ski jumpers.
Simon Ammann, 4 times Olympic champion (2002/2010), is already a world cup winner and a world ski flying champion, but something missing on his wall of fame, it is that one thing that every ski jumper dream to win at least once in their life. The 4 Hills -Tournament is that thing missing on Simi’s already huge palmarès. The swiss champion, which after the first round was in 7th place, have managed to fight back and reach the top of the podium with a final score of 301.9 pts, 4 pts more than today’s runner up, and yesterday qualification winner Anders Bardal of Norway, and 4.6 pts more than Peter Prevc of Slovenia and Thomas Diethart of Austria both sharing the third place of the podium today.
Last year winner of the #4HT Gregor Schlierenzauer was 9th today, behind his team mates Thomas Diethart (3rd) Thomas Morgenstern with a good 5th place after his injury, and another austrian, Michael Hayboeck in 7th place. Instead #WC leader, Kamil Stoch (Pol) didn’t make it into the top 10 and ended at the 13th place of the table ahead of Klemens Muranka also from Poland. Last weekend winner and runner up in Engelberg, Jan Ziobro have closed the day at the 17th place.
Kasai, the ski jumper that never grows old: The ever green, Noriaki Kasai continues to show to be in a top form at 41, with a remarkable 6th place, after the podium (3rd) in Titisee, his level still stand, and it shows to be the main man in the Japanese team, with Taku Takeuchi 12th and Daiki Ito 16th today. Germany,so and so: Germany have placed 4 athletes in the top 20’s but considering that Werner Schuster men were competing at “home” they were supposed to be favorites for the podium. Freund, Wellinger above all. One thing about the German team, was to see back at the hills and in the #WC, Martin Schmitt which ended 36th today. Next stop will be in Garmisch in New Year. Let’s see who’s going to be the first to win a competition in 2014 before the big bang to start (Sochi).
