This weekend must have been pretty busy for a ski jumping fan, because beside the men’s World Cup in Titisee-Neustadt (GER), two more ski jumping events took part. The first one was the Continental Cup in Rena, Norway (HS 111, K-point 99m) and the second one was the Universiade in Trentino, Italy (HS 106, K-point 95m).
Here's a summary of the COC first:
On Friday, we could see the victory of Jernej Damjan from Slovenia. His performance in the second round was outstanding – he jumped on the hill size (111m) and beat his jump from the first round for 4,5 meters! The second guy was Pole Stefan Hula (106,5m and 106 meters). Austria confirmed that their ski jumping is on very high level - they occupied 3. – 6. Place. Third man was Manuel Poppinger (109,5m and 103m), fourth was Michael Hayboeck (108,5m and 100,5m), the fifth one was Christoph Stauder (105,5m + 103,5m) and the following position belongs to Thomas Diethart (103,5m and 107m).
The victory of the Saturday’s COCm competition belongs to Michael Hayboeck, who made jumps 111,5m and 106 meters long. He had beaten last day’s winner Jernej Damjan (111m and 107,5m) and his teammate from the national ski jumping team Manuel Poppinger (2 times 106m). Another Slovenian showed his force – Anze Lanisek (105,5m + 104m) was fourth. The fifth place belongs to German veteran Martin Schmitt (105m and 103,5 meters).
Here are the official results for Friday and Saturday!
Italy hosted this year’s Universiade. It’s an event, where young athletes - students compete themselves. The winners of the Gold medals are Sami Niemi from Finland and Katja Pozun from Slovenia. Sami Niemi (102,5m + 102m) beat Krzysztof Biegun from Poland (100m and 101,5 meters). This counts as a huge kill for Niemi, because Biegun was the winner of the World Cup in Klingethal this year! The third man was Russian Mikhail Maksimochkin (102m and 99m). In the women’s competition Katja Pozun (100m + 102m) was the first one in front of Czech Michaela Dolezelova (102,5m and 96,5 meters). Third place belongs to Irina Avvakumova from Russia – her performance was 96,5m and 101,5m.
Here are the official results for the men and ladies!
The Universiade continues on Tuesday with the mixed-team event. On Wednesday, we'll see the men on the normal hill, while they'll have their competition on the large hill coming up on Saturday. Stay tuned for all information about that!
