Ok where to start? Seriously i have not words enough for to describe this weekend! Yesterday it was an already intensive weekend, with some very good results, and as I suggested with my column title “The Comeback of the Oldies” , well that it couldn’t have been a better title, but to be fair it would have been more appropriate today. Yesterday podium, was something really special, because it in the last couple of years we have been used to see the usual face of Gregor Schlierenzauer at each prize ceremony, - sure we all know what Gregor is capable of- this current season so far has been a bit different, and to be fair with you my dears, I LIKE IT a lot! Yes because is nice, not sorry not nice, is AWESOME, to see someone likeNoriaki Kasai reaching his first podium in a long while on a single event at the age of 41! The longevity, the passion and the hunger this man have shown, not just this weekend but throughout his career especially in the past years, with ups and downs, made it possible for him to gain this chance to come back on the podium, podium which he almost reached yesterday but didn’t managed to get. This man – sorry guys with my football comparison but this is more than appropriate- can be describe it as someone else of his age and still going strong, Ryan Giggs, a footballer for Manchester United FC. When I see people like this, going out there and giving all they can, I’m stunned because, nowadays this intensity and desire is really hard to find on the youngsters! They should have the desire to show what they are capable of, not vice versa. Instead we’re seeing men over 40’s proving they still have plenty to say, on their fields, and this the case of Noriaki Kasai. Simi –Harry Potter-Ammann 2.0.1

Simon Ammann earn his second consecutive podium in the weekend: Photo Kathrin Müller © Skijumpingitaly Is not that I don’t want to talk about today’s winner Kamil Stoch, because Kamil earned to be mentioned in all the ski jumping news today, it’s just that I’d rather focus my thoughts on someone which is not on their 20’s anymore and didn’t have the best of his season the past winter. Simon Ammann last season had to struggled a lot, despite having back with him Gerhard Hofer , the ski man which have helped Simon to win the past winter games in Canada in 2010. Now with the start of this season, Simi is looking to have found back the right balance to reach the top spots as he showed this weekend, with two consecutive podiums in a row! The Winter Games in Sochi are getting closer, and is like if Simi has woken up to get back on his skies in time to mark his presence at the OG! If – and yes it still does a big IF- in Sochi, Ammann will win even “just” one single gold medal he will become the ski jumper with more gold medals won at the Olympic Games. Currently the swiss ski jumper is sharing the “podium” with 4 gold’s with another legend of this sport, Matti Nykänen (4 gold’s 1 silver). Let’s not forget that another oldie and legend of this sport has today achieved, his best rank of the winter season. Janne Ahonen! The Finn which have stunned the media the past spring announcing his comeback in ski jumping, after a very good summer season in the SGP, has today reached his best rank since the World Cup season began the last November, with a 5th place. In conclusion, who the hell have said that getting “old” is such a bad thing, if these are they kind of results you can get with experience and the willing to prove yourself, that you are not done, but you still can be as good other, if not better somehow, right because of the age. Age is and forever will be a number not someone it feels or how it lives is age. This is the best podium in a while for many different reasons. Quick note: Best wishes to Thomas Morgenstern, to comeback soon at the hills where he belong! Article edited by,
