Klingenthal : Was it worth the show?

Last weekend we all have been witnesses of what Tv is able to do, in order to make sure that people do not change the channel, and what bosses at various Tv stations which have signed a deal to show ski jumping, always get what they want.

"The show must go on" used to sing Freddie Mercury, and that is what happened in the Vogtland.

Ski jumping is a sport which is growing year after year, with people from all the countries going to the countless races throughout the winter season, or simply turning their tv on just to watch their idols and support for them, maybe wishing to be there.

Most of the people that i know, do not consider ski jumping as a cool sport, in fact they tend to say that this sport is for crazy people...contrary i've always had a different opinion. You do not need to be crazy to be a ski jumper, what you need, is to have the attributes at the right place.

Ski jumpers never back off, not even when the weather is against them, when the conditions are awfully bad to not be able to perform at their best.

What we seen happening in Klingenthal it was beyond the absurd, and it could have ended in a more dramatic way. Not that the accident occurred to Andreas Kofler is not important - after his fall, people assumed that he have had broken some ribs, at a later date has been cleaned out from injuries- because it is important so much so, that Anders Bardal and Gregor Schlierenzauer, they have both refused to jump.

How can someone with piece of brain in their head ever disagree with them? I don’t, in fact i think it took a lot’s of courage to come out and let people, - the same people which pays their ticket to see their idols fly- we do not take part to this show.

It is not the first time that things like this happen, and i'm afraid that what we saw at the Vogtland Arena last Sunday, it won't be the last. I’m afraid that we’ll still see accidents like this. Mazoch, Morgenstern, Romøren, are just few of the names, to not forget Kofler.

How long will it take to the board to understand, one single, but very important point. When the wind is so strong, races must be post poned either called off.

To risk someone else life, is such bad conditions is not worth it, and to be fair it's idiotic to think viewers would want to watch at this. People might start to expect at least one fall per race if this the direction, that FIS is willing to take, and with the next fall there is only to pray it will end like it ended for Kofler, with nothing broken, but most of all alive. We are all aware that ski jumping is a sport where adrenaline and suspense are a major, but i dare all of you to find anyone ready to watch this kind of farce, with total carelessness for the lives of the athletes.
