Klemens Muranka wins both COC competitions in Klingenthal

23/09/2013 14:54

Saturday:

Although the field of favorites was wide this weekend, the 19-year old Polish youngster had no problems to secure himself the victory in Saturday’s race. With flights of 131.5 and 132.5m he set himself on a 8.1 advantage towards Mikhail Maksimochkin, who became second (142/119.5m; 248.2pts). This surprising 20-year old Russian jumped the farthest jump in the whole competition and was leading after the first round, while Muranka was only fifth. The podium was completed by Thomas Diethart from Austria (134.5/125.5m; 246.5pts), who’s eighth podium in the COC this was.

Overall winner Marinus Kraus became fourth with tries of 131.5 and 128.5m (246pts). He missed the podium by only a half point.

Poland was able to bring four athletes into the top ten. Besides the winner, Krzysztof Mietus went to the sixth place ahead of Bartlomiej Klusek, who was second best in the trial round. Alexander Zniszczol, who performed the best jump in the trial round with 138.5m, became ninth.

The result of Roberto Dellasega makes me proud personally. The 23-year old from G.S. Fiamme Gialle showed performances of 133.5 and 124m. He has been fourth after the first round and finished eighth. Bravo, Roberto!

Michael Hayböck landed on the fifth rank and is second best Austrian with this. Jan Matura closed the top ten.

Nice to mention is also Robert Johannson’s eleventh place. Best Slovenian has been Miran Zupancic on the twelfth place, while Peter Prevc ended up 16th. US- boy Nick Fairall catapulted himself to the 14th place after 133m in the first round. And last but not least: Martin Koch, who entered the COC in Lillehammer, where he went straight to the podium, was 15th.

The other Germans didn’t have an easy time in their home competition. Daniel Wenig was 18th, Markus EIsenbichler 23rd, Danny Queck even 25th.

But let’s have a look at Daniele Varesco at the end: He absolved his first ever Continental Cup competition and got points on place 29.

Sunday:

The second competition that followed on Sunday looked a bit different but not for Klemens Muranka. His tries of 131 and incredible 144m (!) he made himself the winner (274pts) ahead of Roberto Dellasega, who could improve from rank eight the day before and who got is best result so far in his career. We’re proud of him!

The second place was secure for him after his 129.5- and 139.5m-jumps (263.7pts). 259.6points went to Peter Prevc for 127 and 140m(!). Just so that you know: Klingenthal’s HS is at 140m.

Markus Eisenbichler, who was leading after the first round with 135.5m fell back to rank four.

Marinus Kraus ended up fifth but gained the overall-victory though. His 409points have been enough to outnumber Jakub Janda (401pts) and Krzysztof Biegun (292pts). Klemens Muranka is fourth after both victories (272pts), while Daniel Wenig got rank five.

This time it looked a bit better for the Germans because also Stephan Leyhe could place in the top ten (6th). Robert Johannson could improve to rank seven and also Manuel Poppinger is back in the single-digits (9th). Bartlomiej Klusek was 8th and Dominik Mayländer (18, GER), brother of Jan Mayländer, who’s currently competing in the SGP got the third top ten result of his career (all three happened this year).

Jakub Wolny, a Polish newcomer went on place 26 and Michael Dreher was the last German to get points. Martin Koch doesn’t seem to like the jumping here much, he finished 17th.

Thomas Diethart was disqualified along with Peter Frenette and two others.

The COC continues on Dec. 7th in Chaikovsky, Russia. Until then we still have two SGP competitions left. Check our calendar section for broadcasting times.
