The ladies COC-weekend in Lillehammer
17/09/2013 13:42
While the majority of girls were in Nizhny Tagil for the Summer-Grand-Prix,
19 ladies went straight to Lillehammer, Norway, for the only ladies Continental Cup this summer.
Saturday:
Norway set ten girls, who already showed in the trial round that they are nameable competitors. Helena Olsson Smeby, who is 29, landed the second best performance with 88m on the HS100, only beaten by Jessica Jerome’s 88.5m. But also Line Jahr landed on 88m and made clear that it will be a tight fight for the victory. Ema Klinec, the 15-year old Slovenian eagle set an outstanding jump in the trial with 94m from a higher gate. She was followed closely by her sister Barbara Klinec, who is 19.
Similar to the trial was the competition: Ema Klinec managed immediately to get an advantage of 14.5points with 102.5m ahead of Jessica Jerome. In the final round she was able to set 99.5m, while Jerome performed 93m twice. This made Klinec the deserved winner with a gap of incredible 30points (269pts). Although Helena Olsson Smeby got the third place after her first try (90m) and managed 97m in the end, Line Jahr was able to overtake her by exactly 1point (89/94m; 235.5pts). Maren Lundby, who was profiling herself as the best Norwegian lady last winter, had to be content with the fifth place (229.5pts). Barbara Klinec, who got her best result ever in the COC this weekend, became sixth. She was followed by German Pauline Hessler (15, of WSV Lauscha), Nina Lussi, Gianina Ernst, also of Germany and Anna Odine Stroem, a 15-year old Norwegian newcomer. I’m sure we’ll see some of those young athletes more often in the near future.
Sunday:
The second day began similarly to the first competition. Ema Klinec jumped away from the rest of the field with 91m and 13.5points advantage. This time Line Jahr has been half a meter better than Jessica Jerome (83.5m). Gianina Ernst was able to grab place five after her first performance (76.5m). Unfortunately, she fell back to rank six in the end. After another 90m by the high-flyer Klinec the podium looked as follows: Ema Klinec won with 228.5points, 28 counts behind Line Jahr (83.5m twice) and Jessica Jerome (83/85m; 198.5m). Maren Lundby improved by one place during the weekend and finished fourth (74.5/84.5m; 183pts). Helena Olsson Smeby lost a place this way. The top ten was completed by Nina Lussi (7th, USA), Barbara Klinec, Gyda Enger (9th) and Jasmine Sepandj (CAN).
Pauline Hessler finished 13th, Susanna Forsstroem from Finland got the 15th place.
As these competitions have been the only ones contributing to the standings, we see the following overall results: Ema Klinec wins the COC-overall with 200points, gotten through two clear wins. Jessica Jerome and Line Jahr are behind her with 140 points each. Maren Lundby and Helena Olsson Smeby share the fourth place (95pts) and Barbara Klinec followes with 75points. Best German of the weekend was Gianina Ernst on rank 7.
The ladies COC will continue this winter starting in Vancouver on November 30th. But meanwhile, you can also see the ladies in their last SGP coming up this weekend!
