Ema Klinec – A youngster starting big in Courchevel

16/08/2013 15:07

As the ladies do not have as much to do during the summer as the male athletes have, each competition is somewhat special to them. But this one will be more than special for Slovenian Ema Klinec. The 15-year old (from Ssk alpina ziri), who entered the SGP for the first time just on this day but is definitely a big number in the FIS- and Alpencup, already showed in the trial round, that she is someone to count with (88.5m; 5th). But then in the first round she took the lead with 96m and a 0.9points-advantage ahead of Hendrickson and Mattel and finalized her victory with 94m (224.7points).

Sarah Hendrickson, who was everything but satisfied in the mixed-team event on the day before, found the tracks pretty fast and became second with 93 and 98m (222.8points). The longest jump of the day was landed by Yuki Ito with 99m in the final round. The Japanese that is a countable rival to Sara Takanashi got rank three on Thursday (218.4points).

Coline Mattel lost the podium to the ninth place for a weaker second jump of 87m. German Ulrike Grässler on the other hand, claimed her fourth place from the beginning (216points). She was followed by Sara Takanashi, who climbed up from the ninth rank, and Jessica Jerome, who was on place ten after her first try. Carina Vogt became seventh. The top ten was a little shaken after the final round, pushing Atsuko Tanaka back to place eleven after 90.5m, while eighth Svenja Würth landed on place twelve.

Nice to mention is Katharina Althaus’ best individual result in a Summer-Grand-Prix (rank 8, 93.5/91.5m). Irina Avvakumova closed the top ten.

Best Austrian Jacqueline Seifriedsberger had to be satisfied with place 18, while her Italian colleagues D’Agostina and Runggaldier took the 22nd and 24th rank. Evelyn Insam might have returned to early after her knee surgery in June. The Italian top ten jumper as well as Lisa Demetz have been out after the first round. But this also happened to Spela Rogelj, Abby Hughes and Julia Kykkänen.

It seems like there comes a fresh wind into women’s ski-jumping. The group of 15-17-year old athletes is taking the reign and sometimes giving a hard time to some experiences jumpers. In this case, we can also name – besides those fantastic girls in the top ten - Yurina Yamada (17th), Lea Lemare (20th), Manuela Malsiner and Taylor Henrich, who also have been taking home points in this competition.

The SGP standing is now led by Sara Takanashi (125points). She is followed by newcomer Ema Klinec (100points) and Alexandra Pretorius, who won't be able to keep her place due to a meniscus injury in training. This brings a chance for Yuki Ito (with 100points also on rank 2).

The next SGP for the ladies will take place in Nishny Tagil on September 13th and 14th!
