Lukas Hlava wins the qualification in Wisla - strong Polish and Czech athletes

02/08/2013 10:33

The ski-jumping summer continues in Wisla, Poland, not any colder but as cool as in Hinterzarten!

Expectations have been lying on Dawid Kubacki, Severin Freund and maybe Simon Ammann but reality spoke another language.

Lukas Hlava secured himself the qualification victory with a jump of 132m (123.1points), which has been the best performance in the field of qualifiers. Second has been his teammate Roman Koudelka (131m; 121.6points), who was just not pushed away out of the leading box by all other 30 jumpers, who went down the hill after him and before Hlava. Third has been Severin Freund, who’s trying to scratch his 14.place in Hinterzarten with a great 130.5m-try (120.6points). Surprisingly, Andreas Kofler, who couldn’t land a nameable jump in Hinterzarten, has been fourth (128m; 119.6points).

The Polish hosts presented themselves as a really strong team – best has been Stefan Hula on rank six (131.5m). He was followed by Krzysztof Biegun (10th), Piotr Zyla (12th), Dawid Kubacki (13th) and Jan Ziobro (21st). Newcomer Krzysztof Leja could claim the rank 29 for himself, while Andrzej Zapotoczny landed on the 39th.

Davide Bresadola is working to be the best Italian jumper; he became 16thwith 123.5m! But also Colloredo and Morassi could make the qualification.

Nice to mention is also that Alexander Sardyko was getting place 23.

Jurij Tepes, who just entered the SGP, couldn’t qualify. The same happened to Kim Rene Elverum Sorsell, Manuel Fettner und Danny Queck.

Vladimir Zografski seems to fall back in old patterns because he got disqualified due to his suit.

Last focus on the prequalified jumpers: Tom Hilde, Taku Takeuchi and Janne Ahonen had some problems with their jumps and couldn’t reach the 120m-mark, while Maciej Kot and Kamil Stoch have been brilliant with 130 and 127m. But after this event, the absolute favorite might be Matjaz Pungertar, after jumping 132.5m. Andreas Wellinger performed 125.5m, Jan Matura got 125m.

All this makes hungry for more. But before we’ll see the individual competition on Saturday, there’s a team-competition ahead.
It’s starting at 19.30 today! So stay tuned- either on TV or with our live ticker!
