The Germans dominate the Sunday in Hinterzarten!
29/07/2013 11:07
It was an incredible closure of the ski-jumping weekend in Hinterzarten! The sky was blue, the athletes gave their absolute best and we saw amazing performances.
During the trial round, the bets lay on Tom Hilde, who has been best with his 100m-try, as well as Kot(100m), Stoch (101m) and Freund (101.5m), who showed the best warm-ups. Also Roman Koudelka (5.), Krzysztof Biegun and Italy’s Sebastian Colloredo (7.) can be really proud of their performances.
But as known by some jumpers, it seems to be easier for them, to show their best results in a trial round that doesn’t count, while it looks like they are too nervous or do those little mistakes, when it’s showdown. This applies a lot for Sebastian Colloredo. The 25-year old Italian only got rank 44 for 95m and was out of the game after the first round. And also hope Severin Freund had to be content on place 16 although he was competing for the victory. But not only he had a bad show, also Yuta Watase, Roman Koudelka, Denis Kornilov, Piotr Zyla and Noriaki Kasai failed and had to wave good-bye. It also seems like Krzysztof Mietus doesn’t know how to find his form.
But better let’s concentrate on the best of today: There has been a lot of upwind, bringing incredible lengths to this competition. And the ones, who mastered this perfectly, have been Richard Freitag, who has been leading with 105.5m ahead of Andreas Wellinger (105m), Jan Matura (105m) and Michael Neumayer. The latter has been 0.2points better than Matjaz Pungertar with his 104.5m.
It was a really tight and tensing fight with the rest of the top ten being right behind the best. Only the leading Germans have been able to get some points between themselves and the rest. This made Richard Freitag deserved winner after the best jump of the whole weekend with 108m (246.9points). His teammate Wellinger secured himself the second place with showing 104.5m (244.9points). Jan Matura (4th) lost his podium place to Matjaz Pungertar, who is standing there for the first time in a Summer-Grand-Prix (241.4points). Taku Takeuchi was climbing up to place five (237.6points), with Michael Neumayer being behind (237.1points).
Janne Ahonen managed an overwhelming comeback on the seventh rank after being on place 15 (100m) in the first round!
Stoch, Hilde and Kot were completing the top ten. Qualification winner Kubacki landed on the 13th place. Anders Bardal was 18th and Andreas Wank couldn’t help himself and fell again in the final round, leaving the jury to send him on the 26th rank.
Kim Rene Elverum Sorsell was disqualified because of his suit. Seems like the Norwegians are getting problems with this, it also happened to Rune Velta during this weekend.
Oh, and we shouldn’t forget about the climbers of this competition: Davide Bresadola jumped from place 25 to 22, while Karl Geiger overtook 13 places and finished 14th.
Well done to all athletes, who fought the heat and showed us an amazing performance!
