Bernardi bursts out: “Thirty spots for the Olympics are offensive for the girls”
24/04/2013 20:46
The Olympic committee has fixed thirty as the maximum number of spots for the ladies’ ski jumping competitions in Sochi 2014, but Paolo Bernardi does not agree.
The coach of the US team sees it as a lack of respect for the atlete, who always give their best and have great quality and talent. Moreover, the Russian kermesse represent the first opportunity for girls to compete in the Olympic games.
“This sport’s medium level is much higher than what someone wants to let the people think”, said Bernardi in an interview for the italian magazine Universo Bianco. “A closed number of athletes is disrespectful for the girls, who are capable and deserve this chance, and most of all, it goes against the Olympic spirit, a symbol of universal participation”.
