Slovenia wins team competition in Planica
23/03/2013 16:27
In front of their home audience the Slovenian team (Jurij Tepes, Peter Prevc, Andraz Pograjc, Robert Kranjec) could win the next to last competition of this season in Planica.
With 10.7points advantage (1561.8points) they secured themselves the first place ahead of Norway (1551.1points). The team from Scandinavia had to start without Anders Jacobsen, who suffered a lesion of his crucial ligament after a fall in the competition on Friday. Rune Velta, Kim Rene Elverum Sorsell, Anders Bardal and Andreas Stjernen participated in this team event instead.
With a disadvantage of 4.4points the Austrians (Wolfgang Loitzl, Stefan Kraft, Martin Koch, Gregor Schlierenzauer; 1546.7 points) had to give in to the Norwegians. In the last team competition of this season the winners of last year only gained place three.
Poland (Piotr Zyla, Maciej Kot, Krzysztof Mietus, Kamil Stoch; 1543.2 points) on the other hand missed the podium despite of a strong second jump by Wolrd-champion Stoch closely with 3.5points behind Austria.
Sixth place for Germany
For the German team (Michael Neumayer, Richard Freitag, Andreas Wellinger, Severin Freund) the team competition was different than expected. Already in the first round all chances for a podium seemed to be gone after a weak jump by Richard Freitag. With average jumps by the other DSV-eagles their 1501.6points have only been enough for rank six.
Anyway, we can be excited for the last individual competition of this season at the season’s final with the 30 best jumpers in the WC-overall tomorrow. :)
