Holmenkollen- A day to remember

17/03/2013 21:40

So where to start? After the forced break from writing because the damn flu and then total lack of connection with the real world, let's try a little "to write" some sort of review, of what was today at Holmenkollen.

First of all, two beautiful races, won by extraordinary athletes, the likes of Sarah Hendrickson for the ladies, and - here comes the best part-Gregor Schlierenzauer and Piotr Zyla for the guys, yes because if the women's podium was well defined by the victory of a single person, it wasn't like that at the men's race, which for the fans delight have seen Zyla in an ideal form, finally make his way to victory as well.

As, however, this was a great race, personally, from my own point of view I did not really liked the format, that the FIS has chose for today, to alternate the male and female jumping sessions, as it led the race over without giving the people the chance to "pull" the plug off for a minute.

Word to women!

Italy’s Elena Runggaldier went close to the podium after the first round of jumps, the Italian was 3rd, but she was not able to finish the day with a second jump that would have secured her the podium, and thus saw the Austrian, Siefriedsberger complete the trio today.

Big scared, for Anja Tepes, who was taken away on a stretcher after falling at the end of her second jump. The Slovene then posted a picture of her smiling at the hospital waiting to do the right tests.

Space to the men!

With 80 podiums and 49 single victories in his career single, Schlierenzauer now had to make some space on the podium today, after the great performance by Piotr Zyla, who conquers his first career victory in a ski jumping competition. It was a really beautiful race this one by the men today, one of these races it was quite a long time people had the chance to see, but just like for women if it all had to happen was right that a race like this has to happen in Holmenkollen, with 25,000 people ready to cheer for their heroes. And so it was, the Norwegian crowd today got what they deserved, a race to scream!

A race where has seen both Stoch and Kranjec, not been able to give the right battle to Zyla and Schlierenzauer which were above all today, and if Gregor has accustomed us to that, Piotr on the other hand has simply delighted us especially in the last few races of the season, so we can be very happy to see the polish to get so high, on the highest place on the podium for once. There are only few more races left before the season coming to end next weekend and it will be in Planica! Consuelo Conte [@KokkaMufc]
