This weekend, when ski jumpers fought for medals at the World Championships in Val di Fiemme, the COC came to Poland to say it exactly - to Wisła. Athletes from all over the world tried to win on the Adam Małysz- hill.
In the first competition on Saturday the best was German Danny Queck. The second jump by him was really great. After the first round he was 7th but in the final he showed the longest jump of the day - 130.5m. His total points of 252.6 made Queck take the lead. He was very content with his results. Here is how he commented it: "The competition was very good, no snowfall, no wind. I'm very happy”.
(To find out more about Danny Queck: Here is our interview with him inGerman, English and Polish!) Second place belonged to Slovenian Matic Benedik. With jumps of 125.0m and 126.5m he showed that he continues his good performances. On this day the conditions on the hill were really good- also Benedik told about it: "The conditions were perfect. I like to jump in Poland and I like the atmosphere here." At the lowest step of the podium we saw the host - Krzysztof Biegun. He was not able to defend his leading position after the first round. But for the 18-years old Pole even being in top 3 was a big success. He finished on such a good place for the first time in his career: "I'm very happy, it was my best result in the COC. In the second jump I was a bit late at the take-off because I wanted to win." 4th and 5th place belonged to the Norwegians - Kim Rene Elverum Sorsell and Atle Pedersen Roensen. Finally 6th after a great jump in the final round was the young Pole Jan Ziobro. He moved up there from the 21th place. 7th was Swiss man Pascal Kaelin, 8th and 10th were the Slovenians Nejc Dezman and Ziga Mandl and beetwen them place 9th took the third Pole in top 10 - Grzegorz Miętus. The winner of Sunday’s competition ahead of Matic Benedik and Jan Ziobro was Atle Pedersen Roensen. With 124.5m and 129.5m he was definitely the best so it allowed him to win for the first time in this winter season. Here is how he summed up the weekend in Poland: "We had two nice days here, the weather and the conditions were stable. It was a good weekend for me". 2nd place with jumps of 124.5m and 127.5m belonged to a ski jumper from Slovenia again - Matic Benedik. 3rd place was Polish again but this time we saw Jan Ziobro being there: "It was a good weekend for me with a sixth and a third place. The conditions were more difficult than yesterday, the wind changed a bit. But this didn't affect the results that much".
Really close to podium was German Karl Geiger, finally he ended up at the 4th place. Behind him was his teammate and yesterday’s winner Danny Queck. The next places belonged to Austrian Michael Hayboeck (6th), followed by the Slovenians Matic Kramarsic (7th) and Nejc Dezman (8th). The last two places in the top 10 were taken by Lukas Mueller of Austria (9th) and the Polish jumper Krzysztof Biegun (10th).
Saturday’s competition was little bit unlucky for Norwegian Ole Marius Ingvaldsen. His jump of 130.5m was the longest of the day but unfortunately he fell and ended on the 11th place. After these COC competitions in Wisła the leader of the general classification with 651 points is Slovenian Matic Benedik, 2nd is Atle Pedersen Roensen (606 points) and 3rd is Andraz Pograjc (583 points).
The next Continental Cup competitions will be in Liberec (CZE) this weekend.
