The day started nearly flat in those of Vikersund, with a first round rather little exciting to be - if not because it was the first of the season - a ski flying race.
Because not always all the races have the same amount of adrenaline that it takes from the very first jump.
The longest jump during the first round was of 216.5, and on a hill where the HS is 225, well we can say that it was not breathtaking.
The first round ended with the always young Simon Ammann leading the table ,with a jump of 215.5 and 200.9 points, Gregor Schlierenzauer with 199.5 pts, was right behind the swiss, as the third place was taken by Kamil Stoch 197.0 pts.
The final round was all about the screaming, as probably have heard also my neighbors! A final round made of great jumps, which made me understand what it means watching a ski Flying competitions, not matter what if you find yourself in front of a PC or live at the place.
As we already said before, a very sloppy start, at the end the great jumps came, and they were very spectacular ones! The longest jump goes again to Gregor Schlierenzauer, who was Man of the Day, at least for me, he is not only made the longest jump (240) but he has managed to equal Matti Nykänen record of victories with 46 in career. Although he has not put any telemark after his second jump, the Austrian was still awarded good marks from the judges. Schlierenzauer, which did not take part at last weekend competitions in Sapporo (JAP), he's therefore writing his own personal piece of history for the sport.
Simon Ammann on the podium! Podium today for Simon Ammann which has failed to win the top spot for only 0.05 points - the total for Schlierenzauer was of 418.7, while for Super Simi was of 418.2-, a good result for the Swiss who is in his second podium of the season .
Robert Kranjec and flights! Robi Kranjec, shown that when it comes to the ski flying races he is always present, not as in ski jumping competitions he is not there, but we believe that maybe perhaps the Slovenian feel less shy and maybe even a little bit more “aggressive” when there are competitions like today.
Third place for him today with a final score of 417.6 so also Kranjec was not that far from Gregor Schlierenzauer. Andreas Stjernen 4th today! Surprisingly - or maybe not considering the second place during yesterday qualification round-Andreas Stjernen is the best among the Norwegians, closing with an excellent 4th position.
Anders Jacobsen is three positions after Stjernen and ended the day with a 7th place.
A bittersweet day for the Norwegians who surely would have expected to find at least one of them on the podium and not outside it (see Anders Fannemel).
But there will still be time to rebuild, starting from tomorrow.
