Ladies World-Cup in Hinterzarten: big battle between Sarah Hendrickson and Sara Takanashi! -Insam on a high level while it’s end of the season for Daniela Iraschko

13/01/2013 15:41

Saturday: 1:0 for Sarah Hendrickson

It was Coline Mattel who seems to be the best candidate for the win in the first of two WCs in the popular SGP venue that is also used by the ladies since 2011. Until now, Mattel was also able to win a COC there. And after leading the first round with 97.5m and 0.2points ahead of Sarah Hendrickson (97.5m also) it seemed like a tight fight but a possible thing for the 17-year old French jumping-expert. Unfortunately another 97.5m-try (240.4points) was too little to keep her place due to the amazing lengths of her rivals. Sara Takanashi showed 98m (242.4points) and climbed on the lead but remained there just seconds because Sarah Hendrickson flew home the victory with 98.5m (243.6points). Jacqueline Seifriedsberger, who has been fifth after the first round improved and took place four in the end (96.5m; 238.8points), while formerly fourth Anette Sagen fell back on rank six (231.8points). Katja Pozun squeezed herself into the fifth position (232.9points) and is followed by 17-year old Ursa Bogataj, who seems to be improving fast (8th). Evelyn Insam, the Italian that is permanent member of the top ten has been amazing today and finished seventh (94.5/98m; 231.2points). The list of the ten best jumpers was completed by Carina Vogt, who’s jumping a fantastic season so far and is currently the best German, and Alexandra Pretorius, who can celebrate her best WC-result so far: Place ten for her.

Sadly, the great Daniela Iraschko got hurt after her 97m-jump in the first and had to be examined in hospital. For more news about her: see below. Because of her not being able to jump, Seiko Koasa was able to move into the final round and gained her first points in a WC! Congrats for this!

Melanie Faisst couldn’t keep her top fifteen-level from Schonach and also Line Jahr might have hoped for more than

Sunday: 1:1 Sara Takanashi beats back

Today’s race had to start without Daniela Iraschko, whose season is over after rupturing her meniscus and inner ligaments of the left knee. After already being on the podium four times this season, this is the abrupt out for her for about six to seven months. As the Austrian Ski Federation explains, she will undergo surgery today in an Austrian specialized clinic under supervision of Dr. Christian Hoser. Unfortunately she won’t be able to defend her WSC-title of 2011 in Val di Fiemme in February. SkiJumpingItaly wishes her a speedy recovery and all the best to come back strong!

But the show must go on- and so did today’s WC in Hinterzarten. As if Jacqueline Seifriedsberger wanted to show her very best for her teammate, she was leading the first round with marvelous 103m (125.6points). But also Sara Hendrickson showed 103m (2nd), Anette Sagen even 103.5m (4th) and also Sara Takanashi (3rd) was close up to her with 98.5m from two gates lower. It was already clear that this fight would be a really tight and tensing one.

So it started with Evelyn Insam being the first to hit the 100.5m-mark in the final round. She finished on a good fifth rank. Coline Mattel wasn’t able to overtake her and fell back on place six. And then it went pretty fast: Anette Sagen only needed 99m to take the lead (242points). But she was pushed away immediately by Sara Takanashi, who excelled herself with 105m (247.5points). The duel between the small Japanese and her US-competitor Sarah Hendrickson ended in favor for Takanashi because Hendrickson only could take the second place (101.5m; 245.9points). And now it was Seifriedsberger’s turn to end the competition. However, she would have needed more than her more than great 102.5m to make it and fell back to place three.

However, Slovenian Spela Rogelj can be really happy today. She landed her best result so far with place seven and is followed by her teammate Katja Pozun, who definitely seems to be ready for a top three position now. Carina Vogt placed herself on the ninth rank. The top ten was closed by Lindsey Van, who is clearly number two in the US-ladies team.

Nice to mention is also that Yuki Ito finished on a good twelfth place and that Roberta D’Agostina was able to gain points in the final round today. Her teammate Elena Runggaldier should be also named as a very stable athlete. She’s constantly gaining points on places between 14 and 25. Keep it up, girl!

A last look at the overall shows the following: Sara Takanashi is the sovereign leader with 670points ahead of Sarah Hendrickson, who will have a hard time to win the globe this year as well (501points). She is followed by Coline Mattel (448points) and Anette Sagen (411points). Daniela Iraschko is currently owning place five (390points) and is followed by Jacqueline Seifriedsberger and Evelyn Insam.

And now for your notes: The next ladies WC will set place in Sapporo at the first weekend of February and will be continued in Zao the weekend after. So don’t forget to come back for news and results!
