Freund wins first competition of the season in Lillehammer So the first ski jumping weekend of the new season is almost over, and we can for sure be happy with that so far. Yesterday we witnessed history which has been made first by Norway winning the first mixed team event in the world cup, than by Italy which landed on the 3rd place of the podium after 22 years since their last and their 1st podium ever in a mixed team competition. But today was another story, let’s start with the ladies. Takanashi wins, Insam keeps impressing. Sara Takanashi of Japan, have won the first ladies WC competition of the season, finishing ahead of last year overall winner Sarah Hendrickson and Anette Sagen. The Japanese, has closed the day with a total score of 265.2, with Hendrickson only 3.8 points behind (261.4) and with Sagen 6.3 points behind (258.9). All in all it was a good day despite the the rain right before the quail or the wind (which seems it loves to show up at every opening season). Who for sure caught the attention of everyone (well at least mine) has been Evelyn Insam, the Italian which yesterday during the mixed team has had the longest jumps amongst the girls, today has once again proved she is in a very good shape, not just because after the historical podium she had with Italy yesterday, but also because she is today’s winner of the qualification round, and as icing on the cake she ended the day at 5thplace. Freund maintains his winning streak from Klingenthal, Bardal third, Jacobsen just off the podium. Severin Freund, repeat himself and maintain his winning streak. We left the german with a victory on the last day of the SGP last October in Klingenthal, and we found him winning again on the first men’s single event of the season, in Lillehammer. Freund, which has left behind him Thomas Morgenstern from Austria and last year overall WC winner Anders Bardal, closed the day with 268.5 points, with Morgenstern 1.3 points behind, and Bardal only by 1.5. But just like in the ladies is someone else who actually caught my attention (funny how those off the podium are actually the most talked-about), even if since announced his return to the competitions,Anders Jacobsen has soon made it clear by winning already national championship titles and with good results during the summer, that he is more hunger than ever and he has not made the come back for nothing. For more ski jumping fun, don’t forget to follow tomorrow competition. Consuelo Conte [@KokkaMufc]
