First competition - first victory for Tomaž Naglič

The last COC, which set place in Sochi, Russia- the venue of the Olympic winter-games in 2014- was already some weeks ago. Now the series continued in Kuopio, Finland with a victory for Slovenian Tomaž Naglič.

Naglič, who showed great results during the last competitions jumped 120.5 and 125 m (240.9 points) and gained his first COC-victory so far.

Already the training jumps went pretty well for the young Slovenian. He said after his win: "I enjoy jumping right now and I guess that's the secret."

Young Andreas Wellinger (16yrs) from Germany, was leading after the first round with a jump of 124.5m and got the second place in the end with 123m and a final score of 236.0 points. It was his fourth appearance in a Continental Cup so far.

The third place went to Janne Happonen with a total of 235.6 points (122.5 and 122 m ). His team mate Olli Muotka followed with 225.9 points (119 and 121.5 m). All in all it was a great day for the Finish team, because also Sami Niemi (7th) and Mika Kulmala (9th) managed a place in top-ten.

Jan Matura, who is second in the overall ranking, landed on place five ahead of Fredrik Bjerkeengen, who showed his best result since a few seasons with these jumps.

Anders Jacobsen is still leading the overall with 404 points, followed by Jan Matura and Tomaž Naglič, who have 350 points each.

Jan Matura secures himself the first place in the second competition

After Naglič’s first ever victory it was Jan Matura’s turn to win today’s competition. With his jumps of 125 meters each and a total of 248.5 points he left Fredrik Bjerkeengen, who became second far behind him. The latter convinced with 119.5 and 123 meters (230.5 points). On third place landed Andreas Wellinger from Germany (128m/114m; 228.1 points).

During the first round the Finns showed a great performance with Mika Kulmala leading with a 127meter-jump and Janne Happonen, who has been third in the beginning.

While Bjerkeengen gained a lot of places with his awesome second jump, some others had to leave their good positions, for example Janne Happonen, who only managed 110.5 meters in the final round. He fell back to place ten.

Mika Kulmala can be proud of his end result; he gained place four. Olli Muotka confirmed his form with the seventh place. Also the German athletes can be satisfied with today’s places: All of them got a place with points, like Karl Geiger on rank 13 and Marinus Kraus on the 16th place, Daniel Wenig (20th), Martin Schmitt as 21st and Stephan Leyhe on place 30.

It was a good weekend for Volodymyr Veredyuk (27th) and Illimar Paern (22.), who got points, too.

These results change the overall ranking in favor of Jan Matura, who is now leading with 450points. Anders Jacobsen, who didn’t attend the competitions in Kuopio, fell on place two ahead of Tomaž Naglič with 395 points.

The next SGP competition will set place at Courchevel on the 15th, while the next COC will be in Lillehammer on September 8th.
