Announcement of the German coaching team

The German ski association officially announced their coaching team for the upcoming season. Werner Schuster will remain head coach for the men’s team as will Andreas Bauer for the ladies.

But there will also be some small changes: Christian Winkler will work in the federal sports center Oberstdorf and support B-team athletes along with Severin Freund. Instead of him, Tino Haase will support Werner Schuster and Stefan Horngacher. Haase used to be personal trainer for Richard Freitag and B-team coach in the German ski association.

Winkler will still be part of the World Cup and COC-team in several competitions.

Werner Schuster explains the decision: “With these changes we want to make sure there’s a know-how-transfer within the system. Christian Winkler successfully supported the WC-team within the last four years. He knows very well, which conditions have to be made to be internationally successful. On the other hand we want to assure an even more effective coordination regarding the planning of training and competitions of our athletes in Oberstdorf.

However Ronny Hornschuh will remain head coach of the B-team. He is supported by Jens Deimel. The C-team will be coached by Bernhard Metzler and assistant Christian Leitner. Rolf Schilli will be responsible for the German youth team. His task will be the unification regarding technique and athletics.

The ladies‘ coaching team around Bauer will be supported by Daniel Vogler, Christian Buder, Catrin Schmid and the new ski-technician Peter Leiner. As for the ladies’ the aims for Sotchi are clear: “It is necessary to compensate the deficit to the world’s elite. We will lay the focus on a more individual training for our athletes. Especially at the season’s climax, the world championships in Val di Fiemme, we want to use the public attention, be in best form and win a medal. For the WC our goals are: reaching places on the podium and displace the USA as the number one in the nations valuation.”
