Severin Freund had to undergo an endoscopic back surgery on his lower back to get a herniated disk fixed.
The 23-year old German ski-jumper already had problems with his back during the last year.
“For the summer grand prix I had to change my training because of this. In a physic session last week I felt a lot of pain again and after discussing this with the team-doctor Dr. Mark Dorfmüller I decided to let that be treated with a surgery.”, explains Severin Freund.
In this surgery the herniated part of vertebral disk, which compressed the nerve and caused pain in back and in his legs, was removed to relieve the pressure on the nerve.
So this surgery, which took about 40minutes, was a planned treatment, which was necessary, as Dr. Christoph Siepe, attending doctor and head physician at the spinal column center in München-Harlaching, told: “The surgery went well. When there’s a good healing progress, training will be possible again in about two weeks.”
As Freund says, the time of the surgery was chosen well: “Now I have the needed time for a lasting training.”
The German high-flyer is already able to get out of bed and will be send home in a few days!
