Planica Planica has officially started! The last weekend of competitions of the season is started, the day started with training jumps soon after followed by for the qualification round. Today Planica was just perfect, with perfect weather, no wind (yes NO wind), 6° degrees with amongst 20.000 people waiting and watching the ski flying, simply perfect conditions. As the qualifications round started, we saw bib number 22 Italy’s Davide Bresadola, taking the lead of the qualification round with a 204.5 jump, and spending something like half an hour in the leaders corner, than the record hill holder Bjørn Einar Romøren shown up and flew as only he can do in Planica, he jumped 221.5 m scoring 204.7 points and taking away the lead from the Italian. Romøren and Planica there’s always been a special connection and today once again he has showed why that hill is so special for him, he can actually do whatever he wants there (in terms of jumps of course). The Norwegian who had suffered some back problems during the season looked in a good shape but most of all, very confident with his capabilities. - Big names out : As Romøren won the qualification round some others couldn’t make it into the top 40, the number of ski jumpers who will take part at this weekend competition in Planica. Happonen, Damjan, Koivuranta, Hilde, Colloredo, Vegard Sklett, those are just some of the names who won’t take part at this weekend event. - Italy with two qualified and a new italian record. Italy today have been able to qualified two jumpers for the weekend (De Crignis and Colloredo missed out their chances) with Davide Bresadola 7th and Andrea Morassi 20th. Morassi has also set a new Italian record during the second training jump this morning, with 216.5m and replaced the old one he set last year in Vikersund (208m).
