A chat with Bjorn Einar Romoren He held the world record for six years, i guess everybody remember his 239 meters landing in Planica back in 2005. SkJumpingItaly had the pleasure to talk a bit with Bjørn Einar Romøren.
SkJumpingItaly: Hello Bjorn thanks for accepting to answer a few questions.
Let’s start with an easy one, how you feeling now that the World Cup season is over?
BER:Ah, thats nice. Its been a long winter for me where not so much has worked out. So Im eager to start over again and first of all continue the work we started last year, but also fix my back so it will be strong the whole next season!
SJI: We know that throughout the season you had some problems with your back, will you going to get some special treatments for that?
BER: There will off course be some treatment for that, but mostly its going to be a lot of hard work for me. Strong focus in the training, and a lot of boring exercises.
SJI: This has been an interesting season for you guys, a new coach, the whole team has improved a lot, would you ever believed that such a change would have paid off so fast especially in terms of results?
BER: I didnt see the yellow bib coming to Norway. Thats what impressed me the most. But actually, Im a bit surprised that not more guys like Tom, Johan and me followed close behind Bardal. But of course the huge surprise is how well the COC team has done it. Together with new guys like Rune, Fannemel and Sklett managing it really good in the WC. Its been a great season for us. But still lacking nuber 2 and 3. (Not the places, but someone close behind the best)
SJI: Anders Bardal has won the overall world cup title last weekend in Planica, is the first Norwegian to do so since Espen Bredesen 1994. But for some reasons, some people don't seems to be too happy about that, why?
BER: Dunno what paper you have been reading. Because those Ive read compares him to Wirkola! So that Bardal won the overall, that means a LOT to us!
SJI: Do you think there might be some kind of aiding and abetting in the media for the Austrian team?
BER: Dont have an answer to that!
SJI: Just the other night I was reading about your intention to carry on with ski jumping and try to win a medal in Sochi2014 but also in Harrachov in the same year, but what’s your goal for 2013? Maybe a medal in Val di Fiemme?
BER: Val di Fiemme is of course a goal, but mainly I want to have a stabile season. Top 10-15 results every weekend and working my way up. Thats how I will be in position to make it in Val di Fiemme, but most of all in 2014!
SJI: I still remember the day you set the world record in Planica, I was watching the competition on tv, so I’ve always wanted to ask : How did you feel soon after you set the world record?
BER: I felt great already before I set it. Its the best feeling ever! Kinda hard to describe.
SJI: Only last year Johan Remen Evensen, has took away from you the world record. Is it your intention to take it back?
BER: If I ever have the chance to break my own record, I will be happy. And if I can set a new world record, it will be awesome. I just want to fly long and preferably have an awesome feeling doing it!
SJI: Watching at your photo or videos of you guys, you always smiling and from the outside, it looks like you really close to each other, is it right or it's just an impression?
BER: We have a great team spirit. We work hard together all year long, and we wish each other all the best. I know that its good for me that some other guy is doing good. That will help me to become a better skijumper, and thats what the general feeling is in our team. Im really proud and lucky to be in this team.
SJI: What’s your relationship with the fans?
BER: I love the fans. Skijumping would not be the same without. I wish we had more time to greet the fans, but with the hectic program we have, its never enough time.
SJI: Once your ski jumping career will be over what you wanna do after that?
BER: I have to admit that I really dont know. I have a deal with a company that will help me find the perfect job for me. But I have to figure out more about what is what in the business life. I study economics because thats a big platform before I start the "normal" life. I just hope I find a job that gives me half of what skijumping gives me.
