All good things come to an end - and the World-Championships in Falun also passed to the history. But the ski jumping fans won't wait long for the next ski jumping competitions. Today on the Salpausselkä hill in Lahti the team competition awaits us, which begins the last period of the battle for the overall World Cup victory.
Lahti is an amazing centre of the winter sports. Every year in this beautiful Finnish city are held the World Cup competitions of cross country skiing, ski jumping, biathlon and Nordic combined. On the Salpausselkä hills six times were held the World Championships – in 1926, 1938, 1958, 1978, 1989 and 2001. The next World Championships in 2017 will be also held in the capital of the Päijänne Tavastia region.
From the beginning of the history of the World Cup competitions in ski jumping Lahti finds it’s place in the calendar of the competitions and next to Kuusamo is the most recognizable capital of the winter sports in Finland.
There is a ski club in Lahti, called Lahden Hiihtoseura. To this club attended Janne Ahonen, Toni Nieminen, Veli-Matti Lindström, Tami Kiuru, Ville Larinto, Kimmo Yliriesto and Kalle Keituri.
This weekend’s competitions will be held on the K-116 hill (HS 130). The official record of the hill belongs to Austria’s Andreas Widhölzl who jumped 135,5 meters on March, 4 2006.
