The short history of the ski jumping at the World Ski Championships
Ski jumping is presented at the World Ski Championships since 1925. First the Championships were held every year, since 1950 this prestigious event was held every four years alternately with the Olympic Games and since 1985 the World Championships take place every two years.
From the beginning until the year 1962 there was only one ski jumping competition at the World Championships. Since then the ski jumping competitions at the World Championships developed and sequentially the new competitions were added - the men's team competitions at the large and normal hill, the individual men's competitions at the large and normal hill, the ladies' competition on the normal hill (2009) and the mixed team competition on the normal hill (2013).
The very first World Champion in ski jumping became Czechoslovakian Willen Dick, who won the title in Johannisbad 1925 ahead of Henry Ljungmann and František Wende. The first lady who won the title of World Champion was the representative of the USA Lindsey Van, who won in 2009 in Liberec ahead of Ulrike Grässler and Anette Sagen.
The record holder in terms of the largest number of the individual World Champion titles is Poland's Adam Malysz, who won four gold medals in 2001, 2003 x2 and 2007.
