Portrait: Peter Prevc

On the day of Saturday, February 14, 2015 in Vikersund, Norway, on the ski flying hill of Vikersundbakken, the star of Peter Prevc, has shone more than usual, setting a new world record on the ski flying hill - record beaten the next day by the Norwegian Anders Fannemel with 251.5 metric-.

Born in Kranj, Slovenia, on September 20, 1992 Peter Prevc already has a very important trophies wall for his still young age.

2 Olympic medals:

1 silver (NH in Sochi 2014)

1 bronze (LH in Sochi 2014)

World 3 medals:

1 silver (LH in Val di Fiemme 2013)

2 bronze medals (LH team competition in Oslo in 2011; NH in Val di Fiemme 2013)

World Sky Flying titles 1 medal:

1 bronze (individual in Harrachov 2014)

World Junior 2 medals:

1 silver (NH in Hinterzarten 2010)

1 bronze (team competition in Hinterzarten 2010)

The skills, and the tenacity of the young Slovenian we do not discover certainly now, because it is already three consecutive years, that Prevc is at more than exceptional levels. When Skijumpingitaly got to interview him, the first time the then 20-year-old just told us about how he began his career as a jumper for example.

“ I started to train in a ski-jump club when I was nine and a half. Before that I was building jumping hills behind the house. My father saw my enthusiasm of sport and drove me to the club, where it all started for real ”.

At the age of 9 and a half years Peter knew very clearly well what he wanted. And this is one of its strength, his tenacity, knowing what he wants and how to get it, working hard to get where he is now. Passion for ski jumping is so strong in Prevc’s family, that even his younger siblings, Domen and Cene, are also ski jumpers, and talented too.

Already in the trial jumps Peter Prevc had given a proof of himself, landing at 245.5 meters - one meter less from the previous world record held until the day before by Johan Remen Evensen -. But all this wasn't enough for the young talent from Kranj, so much so that in the final stage of the race, Prevc has flew down to the 250 meters.

His recent performances speak for him, the two medals won in Sochi in the individual events, without forgetting the Nordic World Ski Championships two years ago in Val di Fiemme, where the then 20-year-old Prevc has won two medals, silver from the large hill, in the individual competition, and bronze in the team event, was finally exploded.

After finding the world record, Prevc has also found the leadership of the overall world cup table, ahead of the Austrian Stefan Kraft, -who along with the rest of the team was in Villach to prepare for the Nordic World Ski Championships Falun 2015-.

Here's what he said after the race, about the new record set by him.

" I knew that Anders Fannemel jumped well and I had to remain focused. The speed and the position was perfect. Then I just landed. Right now it's hard to describe my feelings, it will probably take a few days. It's always great to jump far. This win today and the world record is my biggest success so far. "

With the World Championships in Falun right here right now It is easy to define Prevc, as one of favorites for at least one of the two gold medals in the individual competitions.
